Klipsch R-625FA Floorstanding Speakers Review
First Impressions and Setup
Upon receiving my Klipsch R-625FA floorstanding speakers, I was immediately struck by their size and weight. They undoubtedly demand a significant amount of space, and repositioning them to fine-tune your setup might be a bit of a chore. However, they are undeniably beautiful, and once they are in place, they make a strong visual statement that complements their audio output.
Several other Klipsch speaker reviews have noted that the assembly process could be improved. The screws intended for attaching the speakers’ feet are problematic. They are a bit too weak for the dense material of the speaker bottom and tend to shear off when driven into the provided pilot holes. To remedy this, I advise that you follow the advice of other users and drill the pilot holes a bit deeper before beginning assembly. Be sure to use a drill bit that matches or is slightly smaller than the original pilot hole to avoid causing any damage.
Sound Quality
The sound quality of these speakers is, quite frankly, exceptional. I was coming from a set of budget Boston Acoustics speakers, and the upgrade in sound quality was immediately discernible. They produce a clear and crisp sound, with tight bass and pristine mids and highs. Paired with a THX amplifier, these speakers genuinely shine and manage to sieve out even the most minute details in movies and music.
Pair them with a capable receiver like I did with my Denon AVR970H, and you have a sound system that leaves no stone unturned. These speakers have proven to be a fantastic addition to my audio equipment and provide an amazing listening experience.
The Good and The Bad
While the Klipsch speakers excel in sound delivery, they have a few drawbacks. Buyer beware: If your purchase is an issue, you may find the manufacturer’s customer service less than stellar. In my case, one of the speakers arrived broken, and the solution I was offered involved a bit too much back-and-forth than I would have liked.
Despite pairing these with a capable Denon AVR, the Dolby Atmos effects weren’t as pronounced as I had hoped. The top-mounted speakers rely on sound bouncing off the ceiling, which may not be the most effective method for all setups or ceiling heights.
Materially, while I find the substantial construction of these speakers pleasing, some might find the plastic terminals a bit disappointing. I had to add spade tips to my wires to ensure a good connection, and it is worth noting that the speaker enclosures are primarily composed of a pressboard and faux veneers. Despite being reasonable for the price, this doesn’t quite align with the Klipsch of days past.
Dolby Atmos Expectations
Using these speakers with my Denon 2800 AVR, I was keen to discover the effects of Dolby Atmos, which many have hailed as a game-changer. However, the results were slightly underwhelming. The top-mounted speakers didn’t produce the impressively immersive, bounce-off-the-ceiling surround sound I expected, especially considering my room only has 8 ft high ceilings. This likely could be a downside of the product design or inherently due to the relatively novel concept of the bounced Atmos effect.

Final Verdict
In summary, these Klipsch R-625FA Floorstanding Speakers are not without their downsides. The setup could be made more straightforward, and customer service could be improved. Nonetheless, their fantastic sound output, muscular build, and reasonable price make them well worth considering, especially if you’re looking for a significant upgrade in audio quality.
